Wayne Stasinowsky is a Senior Research Geophysicist at CSIRO in Brisbane. He is experienced in most geophysical techniques and has conducted research and development in hardware, software and field procedures for many of these, including developing new geophysical techniques for exploration and mining in multiple countries and with major mining companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto and Anglo American. He has extensive experience with applying geophysics to operating open cut and underground mines to assist mine planning and to gain geotechnical information. Wayne’s work at CSIRO includes various ground probing radar projects and ways to use optical fibre to measure geophysical responses. His main focus is assisting mine operations to improve productivity and safety as well as making mining more sustainable. His research includes fitting a radar to blasthole drilling equipment and finding a way to detect cavities in stockpiles in real time.
