Dr Benjamin Carey
Dr Benjamin Carey is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, specialising in quantum-enabled sensing and precision measurement. His research focuses on optomechanical systems, magnetometry, and integrated photonic devices, with an emphasis on developing highly sensitive, chip-scale technologies. His work integrates sensor physics, photonics, microfabrication, and materials engineering to enable the detection of extremely weak signals, with applications in fundamental science, biomedical sensing, and emerging technologies. Dr Carey completed his PhD at RMIT University and has held research positions in Australia and internationally, including at the University of Münster in Germany, where he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. Since joining UQ, he has focused on advancing and translating optomechanical and photonic sensing platforms, working closely with industry and government partners to bring these technologies toward real-world applications.
