2018 QUEENSLAND MINING AWARDS FINALISTS

15 Jun 2018

PRODUCTIVITY AND INNOVATION A WINNING COMBINATION

The Queensland Mining Awards have revealed the 2018 cohort of finalists today, with winners announced in six weeks’ time at the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition in Mackay. The finalists range from small, locally owned companies like Mackay-based QCCS and HMA Wear Solutions, to mid-size companies like Coxons Group Australia, large contractors like Downer, McLanahan and Wolff Mining, and producers Rio Tinto, Anglo American and New Hope Group. Finalist entries had a focus on productivity increase in common, impressing the judges with their contribution to the industry and outcomes that could be effectively replicated for success.

The peer-judging panel included open cut, underground and minerals industry leaders across operations, management, procurement and logistics, such as:
• Peter Kane – Chief Operating Officer, QCoal Group
• Dan Kadziela – Head of Business Development, Minerals Australia, BHP
• Ian Rees – Chief Advisor Integrated Planning, Rio Tinto Aluminium
• Michael Jones – Production Manager, Jellinbah Resources
• Margaret Davies – former Supply Chain Manager, Anglo American
• Suzanne Mitchell – Regional Practice Manager, EconomX

With a record number of entries this year, Bowen Basin Mining Club Director Jodie Currie says the calibre of submission was exceptionally high in a clear show of industry recovery. “It’s fantastic to be celebrating our industry with such a strong show of innovation, collaboration and productivity targets. Thanks to our co-hosts, the Queensland Resources Council, the new Collaboration and Safety categories included a brilliant number of entries from industry producers, highlighting important initiatives,” said Ms Currie. Finalists will also be represented during QME at the Queensland Mining Awards stand, B212 in the main pavilion. Keynote speakers for the Gala Presentation Dinner were announced last week, with Mr Rag Udd of BHP and Mr Ian Macfarlane of the Queensland Resources Council giving industry addresses.

Tickets are selling fast for the Gala Presentation Dinner, sponsored by Stanwell Energy, which will be held Wednesday 25 July in Mackay. Limited tickets are still available at $175 per person or $1700 for a table of 10 from www.bbminingclub.com/awards.
