Stars to shine during QME

Four high-profile Australians will add celebrity pizzazz to the technological innovations on show at the Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME) at the Mackay Showground from Tuesday July 27 to Thursday July 29.

Dual Rugby international and local, Wendell Sailor, will host QME’s “Night to Remember” industry social networking event at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on the exhibition’s opening night (Tuesday July 27) – an event held in conjunction with the 2010 QME Mining Industry Conference.

”The Dell”, whose highly successful football career saw him represent Australia in both Rugby League and Union, is now focused on a media career.

Meanwhile, Jeff “Thommo” Thomson, one of the fastest ever test cricket bowlers, will be on the Steel Blue work footwear stand (Stand 1255) on Wednesday July 28.

Thommo took 200 test wickets in a career that included 51 tests and his opening partnership with fellow fast bowler, Dennis Lillee, who is also an ambassador for Steel Blue, was one of the most fearsome in test cricket history.

Also on site for most of QME will be Australian rock legend and Rose Tattoo front man, Angry Anderson, manning the Blundstone safety and work wear stand (Stand 1260).

A highly popular QME 2008 personality, he will meet and greet visitors to the stand, pose for photos and sign souvenirs.

Professional Rugby League player and captain of the National Rugby League’s North Queensland Cowboys, Johnathan Thurston, will make a similar appearance on the Autocorner Fleet Solutions stand (5155) between 9am and 11.30 am on Tuesday July 27.

A two-time Dally M Medal winner, three-time State-of-Origin Man-of-the-Match, and Wally Lewis medallist, Thurston has also represented Queensland and Australia and has been described as the "greatest Origin half-back" of all time.
