Reed Exhibitions, organiser of the Queensland Mining and Engineering (QME) exhibition, has confirmed that inappropriate behaviour and dress on the part of exhibitors and their staff, or visitors, will not be tolerated during the show.
QME 2010 will be held at the Mackay Showgrounds from July 27-29.
Reed Exhibitions’ Group Exhibition Director John Gorton said that all participants in QME – visitors, exhibitor staff and others – had an absolute right to expect that there would be no offensive or inappropriate displays and promotions.
“The mining industry today is representative of the full cross-section of the community – and QME will reflect that,” he said.
“Today, mining employs men and women, young people, older people, people of different cultures and religious backgrounds – and of course it’s always seeking to encourage more entrants to the industry.
“Whether on a mine site or at an industry event such as QME, everyone has a right not to be confronted with inappropriate or offensive promotions, behaviour and attire.
“Visitors to QME – or any Reed Mining Events show – can expect to see the same standards of behaviour, marketing and dress as they would see at any community event,” said Gorton.
“If any visitor or participant at QME is offended by any activity, they can contact Reed staff on site to make a complaint.
“Exhibitor staff or visitors who may be acting or dressed inappropriately will be asked to modify their behaviour or attire; if they fail to do so, they will be asked to leave the show.
“Any exhibitor having inappropriate materials or activities on its stand will be asked to remove or cease them.”
Gorton said Reed Exhibitions had also become aware of organisations completely unconnected with QME attempting to use the event’s name and trademark to promote other activities.
“There have even been recent reports in the media linking QME with some local entertainment venues. We have clarified with the media that we have absolutely no association with any such venues and object to any attempt to link us to them.
“Further, a number of venues in Mackay have been promoting activities claimed to be specially on offer during QME week, and using our name without our permission,” he said.
“We are taking action to prevent them continuing to do so.
“We will also not hesitate to act against any organisation – including media outlets – which run advertisements or other promotions for organisations and events using any of Reed Exhibitions’ trade marks or logos, including QME that are not connected with Reed Exhibitions or QME.
“We will not tolerate any unrelated venue or organisation attempting to imply a connection or affiliation with QME and cash in on this event which is aimed at the mining community as a whole – not a small minority,” Gorton said.
QME is part of the REEDMININGEVENTS structured portfolio of premium mining industry exhibitions owned and operated by Reed Exhibitions Australia. This portfolio includes:
• Goldfields Mining Expo (GME), Kalgoorlie, October 26-28, 2010
• Asia Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition (AIMEX), Sydney, September 6-9, 2011; this is REEDMININGEVENTS’ flagship event, held every four years.
