• Prestigious contract for the showcase Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition

• Providing cost-efficient energy and air conditioning

• Demonstrating know-how to key industry players

Mackay - The expected 10,000 attendees at this year's Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) will be kept in cool comfort thanks to a temperature and humidity control solution provided by Aggreko, the global leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services. The event, held biennially, is the largest mining event on the east coast of Australia and thus provides an important opportunity to showcase Aggreko’s equipment in action to the industry.

“QME has become a must-attend event for all buyers and industry professionals to come together and catch up on the latest products and technologies, keep abreast of industry trends and network with industry colleagues in a vibrant business environment,” said Stephen Steenson, Operations Director for REED Exhibitions, event organisers for QME.

QME 2010 will take place at the Mackay Showgrounds, inside temporary structures erected specifically for the event. “Ambient temperatures within the marquees can reach up to 30 degrees due to the large number of visitors at the show, which can cause discomfort, exacerbated by relative humidity,” explained Steenson. “The cooling solutions provided by Aggreko can lower the temperature by approximately eight degrees, depending on other variable factors. This provides significant relief, particularly to foreign visitors who may not be accustomed to Queensland’s high temperatures.

” Aggreko has the world’s largest fleet of rental chillers and the equipment used at the exhibition is from the same fleet the company uses for cooling inside mines and for other industrial applications. “QME is a key event for both mining industry suppliers and buyers,” said Asterios Satrazemis, Managing Director, Aggreko Australia. “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the versatility of Aggreko’s temperature control systems.”

“Reliability is crucial,” added Steenson, “and Aggreko has provided a reliable service to us at every show since we began in 1995.”

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through our 144 service centres, which we call the Local Business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.
